Al-Anon Family Groups, which include Alateen, has been in existence for 60+ years as a community resource providing support to those affected by someone else’s drinking. Today, there are over 26,000 Al-Anon and Alateen groups meeting in 130 countries; with over 14,000 Al-Anon Family Groups meeting every week throughout the U.S. and Canada. Our meetings are anonymous and confidential. There are no dues or fees for membership.

Al-Anon Faces Alcoholism is Al-Anon’s annual public outreach magazine designed to introduce families of alcoholics to Al-Anon and to the importance of family recovery from a relative or friend’s drinking. Read the online version for essential information about Al-Anon, members’ stories, and articles by professionals are included. Professionals also can use the Al-Anon Faces Alcoholism magazine as an aid for their patient/client referrals to Al-Anon. Obtain copies for your office.
Al-Anon and Alateen meetings are compatible with all types of counseling and medical treatment. The intention is not to replace them, but to compliment them, when working with people who might benefit from the Al-Anon program. Consider attending an open meeting or an event to gain a better understanding of the meetings and the peer-to-peer support offered. Remember, at times professionals who work regularly with those struggling with alcoholism/addiction and their families may also be affected. Al-Anon provides the support that can help professionals at times as well.
